BEAUTY FAQ’S

HENNA BROWS

+ What is Henna?

Unlike the Henna tattoos which have additives, the Henna used for brows is a 99.5% natural product that has the power to stain the skin as well as the hair. Unlike regular tints, it contains no ammonia or peroxide’s. It conditions the brow hairs as well as encourages new hair growth.

+ How long do they last?

Like anything, results do VARY, however, on average you can expect the skin stain to gradually fade over 7-14 days and the hair tint 4 weeks. Your lifestyle also plays a big part in the longevity i.e. swimming, excessive sweating, using face products on the eye area etc will all result in your henna brows fading faster than usual.

+ Are Henna Brows always dark or red?

Not at all! We have a range of different Henna colours available from very pale blonde to black. Colours can be customised to suit you. Darker colours will stain the skin more than lighter shades.

+ Are there any contraindications?

Yes. Please speak to us first if you suffer from any of the following:

  • Have keloid scarring
  • Active acne, cysts or boils on brows
  • Cysts or boils - in the brow area
  • Using roaccutane
  • Using oral antibiotics
  • Trichotillomania
  • Chemotherapy
  • Open cuts, wounds or abrasions
  • Sun or wind burn - on the face
  • Tint/hair dye allergies
  • Rashes, bruising or swelling
  • Psoriasis, eczema or dermatitis
  • Any beauty treatments that exfoliates the skin or causes peeling.
  • Skin needling, botox or fillers - in the brow area
  • Have an autoimmune disorder or taking immunosuppressive medication

LASH EXTENSIONS

+ What type of extensions do you use?

At Amplify we only use cruelty free synthetic silk and synthetic mink lashes.

+ What is the difference between Classic, Hybrid & Volume?

Classic lashes is the application of one single synthetic lash to each of your natural lashes to create length and thickness. Volume lashes is the application of a fan with a number of lighter lashes to create a denser, fluffier look without much extra length. Hybrid lashes are a mix of both Classic & Volume.

+ How long do they last?

Lash extensions last on average from 2 to 6 weeks. The longevity of the extensions will depend on your individual lash cycle and also how you follow the aftercare. Due to the lash growth cycle, refills must be applied to fill in the gaps from the natural lashes that have fallen out.

+ Do you fill in other Lash Technicians work?

Unfortunately we only fill work by Amplify or Nirvana Clinic technicians. We do however offer free removal with a full set of Amplify Lash Extensions.

+ Will they damage my natural lashes?

Our technicians are trained in exactly what weight and length lashes to use for different natural lash types. As long as the lashes used are not too heavy or long, then your natural lashes will not be damaged by the extensions. Please do not pick or rub your lashes as this can damage the natural lash.

+ Are there contraindications?

Yes. Please speak to us first if you suffer from any of the following:

  • Eye Infections/disorders
  • Recent Eye Surgery
  • Allergy to product (inc Acrylic nails or Cyanoacrylate adhesive)
  • Conjunctivitis
  • Styes
  • Dry Eye Syndrome
  • Using prescribed medicated eye drops
  • Trichotillomania
  • Chemotherapy
  • Pregnancy

  • Contact Lenses – must be removed

 LASH LIFT

+ What is a Lash Lift?

Using silicone pads this new technique is a semi permanent treatment that can lift, straighten or curl, and lengthen your own natural lashes to create a brighter, fuller, wide eyed look.

+ Does it hurt?

The treatment is not painful, but it does feel a little strange initially while the rods are being applied. If you are claustrophobic, we do not recommend receiving a Lash Lift as you are required to keep your eyes closed for a minimum of 45 minutes.

+ How do I prepare for my appointment?

Please come in with no eye makeup on and avoid using mascara for at least 24 hours prior to your treatment.

+ Does it damage my lashes?

Our technicians are highly trained and the lashes should not show signs of any damage since the lifting solution is not being applied all the way to the tips of the lashes. If the lashes are weak and/or damaged before receiving the treatment, it is recommended to wait until your lashes have grown a bit stronger to prevent further damage and over processing.

+ How long does it last?

The Lash Lift will last 6-8 weeks, depending on your individual lash cycle. Please note that lash serums, biotin, and/or medication(s) can affect the lash cycle, resulting in quicker lash shedding.

+ Are there contraindications?

Yes. Please speak to us first if you suffer from any of the following:

  • Eye Infections/disorders
  • Recent Eye Surgery
  • Allergy to product (inc Acrylic nails or Cyanoacrylate adhesive)
  • Conjunctivitis
  • Styes
  • Dry Eye Syndrome
  • Using prescribed medicated eye drops
  • Trichotillomania
  • Chemotherapy
  • Pregnancy
  • Medication – (Particularly thyroid or hormone)
  • Contact Lenses – must be removed

WAXING

+ Why should I wax?

Waxing is one of the best ways to temporarily remove unwanted hair. It is more effective than shaving because it removes hair from the roots, not just from the skin’s surface. Over time, hair in waxed areas regrows lighter and more sparse, and sometimes not at all.

+ How long does my hair need to be?

Hair needs to be 1/4 inch long (think of a grain of rice). If it is too short, the hair will be difficult to remove. More pain is associated with longer growth. If you typically shave please allow 7-10 days between shaving and waxing.

+ How long will the results last?

Appointments are usually scheduled every 4-6 weeks. If this is your first waxing experience you can reasonably expect your results to last between 3 and 6 weeks with minimal growth in the days and weeks following your appointment, depending on how quickly your particular hair grows. Hair regrowth patterns are cyclical and you will notice an improvement in regard to the longevity of your results as you become regular with your waxing services.

+ Does waxing make the hair grow back thicker?

No. This is a complete myth. Waxing, in fact, is known to actually stop hair growth all together in some cases. It is important to keep in mind though that waxing should be used as a temporary hair removal method as the slowing or stopping of hair growth takes many years of consistent waxing.

+ What type of wax is used?

We use different types of wax for different services. Most waxing services require the use of hard wax, which hardens on the skin and is then removed. Hard wax is perfect for use on people who have sensitive skin as the wax encapsulates each individual hair and does not attach to skin. For some services provided a strip wax, or soft wax, is best to use. Stripwax is applied to the skin and a small piece of paper is pressed over the top and is removed in that fashioned. All of the waxes used are of the highest quality and the results are superior because of this.

+ Who should not be waxed?

  • Anyone who has an active Herpes outbreak
  • Anyone with a sunburn on the area to be treated
  • Anyone who has had a chemical peel over the treatment within the past 7 days
  • Any area of the skin showing signs of trauma, open or active acne lesions, eczema, psoriasis or any type of dermatitis will not be waxed.

FACIALS & MICRODERMABRASION

+ What type of Facials do you offer?

Our 30 minute Facial is a relaxing treatment that uses cruelty free and vegan friendly ASAP products and is great for people that are short on time. In this facial we use cleanser, exfoliator, oils, serums, eye cream, moisturiser, night cream & SPF.

Our 1 Hour Facial is great for people who have a little more time up their sleeve and want some extra pampering. Extras added into this treatment are an amazing AHA/BHA Mask and serums catered to you.

+ What is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a skin treatment that uses fine crystals to remove dead skin cells and is used to renew overall skin tone and texture. It can improve the appearance of sun damage, wrinkles, fine lines, age spots, acne scarring, melasma, and other skin-related concerns and conditions.

+ What type of Microdermabrasion do you offer?

We offer 3 types of Full One Hour Microdermabrasion/Sonophoresis Facials that target specific skin concerns. These are Hydrating, Acne and Rejuvenation. We also offer a Basic Microdermabrasion treatment.

+ Can I get a treatment if I have sensitive skin?

Yes, all of our products cater to sensitive skin

+ What should I expect after my treatment?

You may experience some redness right after the treatment. Over the following days you may experience some dryness, sensitive skin and/or small bumps that subside within 5 days.

+ When can I not get the treatment?

If you have any form of active acne, rosacea or skin irritation (such as eczema, rash, cold sores) this will hinder the facial treatments as it may cause irritation or spreading of the issue.

You cannot have any other exfoliating treatments such as dermaplaning done 2 weeks prior and post microdermabrasion.

+ What is Dermaplaning & what can I expect after?

Dermaplaning is a skin treatment that uses an exfoliating blade to skim dead skin cells and hair from your face. Using our ASAP products alongside this treatment leaves you with healthy, glowing skin.

With Dermaplaning you can experience some sensitivity or tinglyness straight away, this is due to removing the hair and the products penetrating deeper. In some cases sensitivity may last 24-48 hours when doing certain things e.g cleansing or toning your face depending on your skin type. You may experience dry patches in the days post treatment but this should only last around 1 week.

MASSAGE

+ What types of massage do you offer?

Our massage therapist Paige has experience in all types of massage and she will tailor your session to match your needs.

30 minutes - Great for people that are short on time and are just wanting to focus on one area.

45 minutes - Back, neck and shoulder massage or/with legs or arms and decolletage

60 minutes - Full Body Massage including back, neck, shoulders, arms and decolletage.

You can swap and change different areas, add in a scalp massage or just focus on one area for the full amount of time, its up to you!

+ Will I be covered during the session?

You will be properly covered or draped at all times to keep you warm and comfortable. Only the area being worked on will be exposed. No areas will be exposed without your consent. You should always let your therapist know if you are uncomfortable for any reason during your massage session.

+ How often should I get a massage?

For those who use massage as preventative care or to manage daily stress, one massage a month is common. Weekly sessions may be desirable if you are receiving massage for injury relief or to relieve chronic tightness that is interfering with your daily life. There are many people who incorporate massage therapy at least twice a month for optimal therapeutic relief.

+ Do I need to be completely undressed?

You should undress to your desired level of comfort. About half of our clients prefer to be completely undressed, while the other half prefers to keep their undergarments on. This is completely up to you. You will undress and dress in the privacy of your massage room and will be securely covered by a blanket and a sheet during your massage session.

+ How will I feel after my massage?

Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience a significant decrease or freedom from long-term aches and pains. Many feel a little slowed down for a short period and then notice an increase of energy, heightened awareness and increased productivity which can last for days. If you received a deep massage, you may be slightly sore the next day - much like a good workout at the gym. Sometimes a hot shower, or a soak in the tub can ease this soreness. After your session you should increase your water intake a bit. Just a glass or two more than normal is usually fine. This helps keep your body's tissues hydrated and healthy.

+ When should I not get a massage?

If you have an injury that should be seen by a physio or doctor it is important to check whether you should receive a massage alongside your treatment. We can always apply light pressue or avoid the area until you have been given clearance by your medical professional. If you are unwell then getting a massage may make you feel worse.

TANS

+ What type of tan do you use?

We use both Spraytanz (made in NZ) and Colour Me Bronze (made in Australia).

+ Will I have to stand around waiting for it to dry?

No! Gone are the days of standing around waiting for spraytans to dry.

Our product is touch dry immediately and you can get dresssed straight after.

+ What do I do once my tan has been applied?

The tan develops in as little as 2 hours. For a subtle tan, please shower the evening of your tan. For a deeper tan, please wait until the morning after to shower. The tan will stop developing after approx 12 hours.

+ How do I prepare for my tan?

To achieve the best tan result please follow the following instructions.

Week leading up

- Prep skin by moisturing daily
- Exfoliate body everywhere each showertime paying special attention to legs, knees and elbows
- On night before tan please shave, exfoliate and moisturise

On Tan Day

- No perfume, deodorant or moisturiser
- Long hair must be tied up
- Makeup and jewellery must be removed
- Wear loose clothing and shoes/jandals for after

TOOTH GEM

+ What is a tooth gem?

It is a temporary Swarovski Gem applied to your tooth with dental adhesive.

+ How long will it last?

The longevity of a Tooth Gem on the tooth depends entirely on the individual client. The natural acidity of your saliva and diet plays a big part on how long an application lasts. We advise anywhere from 1 week and up to 1 year. Our very own Candice has had hers on for over a year now.

+ How do I remove it?

You can use dental floss and gently slide it down on the surface of your tooth at the base of the gem.

+ When can I not get a tooth gem?

Tooth Gems will not adhere to artifical tooth surfaces such as crown, veneers and false teeth.

HAIR

+ What type of hair extensions do you offer?

We offer the Nano & Micro ring method. The extensions are threaded onto your natural hair and secured with tiny silicone lined rings to eliminate the need for any glue or tape.

+ How long do they last?

At Amplify we use only the highest quality Russian & European Remy Human Hair. This hair should last up to a year or longer with the right aftercare and regular maintenance appointments. As with all semi permanent hair extensions, it depends on your individual hair growth as to how often you need maintenance. The average is 8-12 weeks.

+ Can I get extensions for just volume?

Yes! During our consultation we will discuss the results you are wanting to achieve. We can work with length and volume or just volume.

+ When can I not get extensions?

Your hair must be at least 2.5 inches long to get extensions. You cannot get hair extensions if you suffer from Trichotillomania or are currently undergoing chemotherapy. If you have thyroid issues that are effecting your hair then we would also not recommend extensions.

SKIN NEEDLING

+ What should I expect after?

Directly after your treatment you skin will be very red and plump feeling and may feel as though you have a sun burn. This will cool down after 48hours. It is best to keep your skin clean and protected from the sun using a spf. We also suggest changing your pillow case to avoid any cross contamination.

+ What should I avoid before/after treatment?

It is best to stop using all active products 48 hours prior to treatment. This includes Vitamin A (Retinol) and other ingredients such as Glycolic Acid. After treatment it is the same, do not use these products for up to 3-5 days. Avoid excessive exercise and swimming pools. Make up can be worn after 24 hours but please ensure your brushes are clean. Skin can possibly flake at around 3-5 days and it is important to not pick at this. Post inflammatory pigmentation is a risk in darker skin and is more likely if sun exposure has not been avoided.

+ What can I expect during treatment?

This treatment can be sore at times and on certain areas that have less fat for example on the forehead. Because we are creating micro wounds it is not pain free. It may feel hot and a little stingy. There is the potential of wee blood spots and in some case you can see the movements the pen has made in the form of little lines. Not to worry this will decrease in a few days. Its important to let your therapist know if the pain is unbearable.

+ How many treatments do I need?

It is encouraged to do between 4-6 treatments at 4-6 weekly intervals. In between these times it is important to keep up the work at home, like using a good skin care routine and incorporating a retinol. When using a retinol it is of utmost importance to use a spf.

+ When will I see results?

The most important thing to understand is that skin routines and treatments are not quick fixes. Most people will start to see a difference after their second treatment but results vary between clients and what you doing at home to enhance results. Keeping hydrated and a maintaining a healthy diet will help improve the condition of your skin.

+ When can I not get needling?

Most people can get skin needling as long as you have no contraindications. You cannot get needling if you have inflamed or active acne or lesions on the area we are treating. You will have to postpone treatment if you are pregnant or on Roaccutane. Its very important to stay out of the sun. You will have to postpone your treatment also if you have any active facial herpes as this can spread. Caution is required for patients with darker skin types or a history of melasma or post-inflammatory pigmentation. are effecting your hair then we would also not recommend extensions.

LASER

+ What machine do you use at Amplify?

We have a top of the line Syneron Candela GentleMax Pro Laser Hair Removal machine.

+ How does the machine work?

The Gentle Hair Removal laser targets the hair follicle with intense laser light energy for thermal destruction to provide permanent hair reduction over the course of a few treatments. With fast treatment times, Gentle Hair Removal delivers a more comfortable patient experience.

+ Does it hurt?

Some patients may feel slight discomfort with each laser pulse, sometimes described like a snapping of a rubber band on the skin. This discomfort resolves quickly and is minimized by the air cooling system.

+ How many treatments will I need?

The number of sessions depends on the treatment you require and condition of your skin. For laser hair removal, reduction of hair can be seen after one treatment but because hair grows in cycles, not all hair is affected in one treatment. Everyone usually requires at least 4-8 treatments, about 6-8 weeks apart. Other skin conditions may require 1-3 treatments.

+ How do I prepare for my treatment?

Avoid the sun 4-6 weeks before and after treatment. Patients who are actively tanned or sunburnt will need to re-schedule their treatment session. Additionally you cannot be treated if you have a spray or artificial tan. For Laser Hair Removal Hair removal patients should avoid plucking, electrolysis or waxing for six weeks prior to treatment. Skin should be clean-shaven and thoroughly cleansed, removing any makeup, creams, oils, topical anesthetics or self-tanning products before laser treatment.

+ Are there any side effects?

There could be temporary redness and swelling that occurs immediately after treatment. Other potential side effects include hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, blistering and purpura (a laser bruise) in the treated area. This will all be discussed at your complimentary Laser Consultation appointment.

+ What is the difference between Laser & IPL for Hair Removal?

Laser machines provide a very specific type of light wavelength which is targeted and concentrated. The wavelength of light going in one direction creates a strong and highly effective light. IPL machines provide a broad range of wavelengths to create a single flash of light, like a flash on a camera which covers a larger area. This decreases the power of the treatment and causes less effective results. Typically, IPL technology will require more treatments and may produce less effective hair reduction. New laser technologies we work with in clinic are more advanced and effective than IPL counterparts with less discomfort (as they are fitted with integrated cooling systems). In addition, it means our machines can treat a wider range of skin and hair types than an IPL would.
